Are you exposed to mold?
Do you and your family have ongoing mysterious symptoms? Does your house or work place smell musty? Has your home had any leaks? Do you see any visible mold spores in your home, car or work place? Were you ever exposed to black mold? Do you feel better when you’re away from home, work, school? Do you have a ‘finished’ basement or cellar?
Mycotoxins don’t just appear within the black mold that you may see in your window sills or in the grout of your shower. Mycotoxins can be found behind walls, on ceilings, soft furnishings, under sinks, and they can be invisible.
Mycotoxins from mold can be problematic for the body and have been linked to chronic fatigue and weakness, gastrointestinal problems, hormonal imbalances, respiratory conditions, recurring infections, dizziness, anxiety, histamine intolerance and even Alzheimer’s.
The level of toxic mold within the body can be tested using a mycotoxins urine test, but also a comprehensive stool test or Organic Acid Test can show us indications of mold exposure. These tests can be ordered with me.
A building or vehicle can be tested using different methods including dust analysis, petri dish analysis, air tests and ERMI reporting. There are many mold testing companies who can do this for you and some home testing kits are available online.
Helpful tips for the home:
Ensure the house is well ventilated.
If your home is exposed to water damage, clear the water up and dry it out as soon as possible. You may need professional help.
Do not clean black mold with bleach! Tea tree oil is great. Always wear PPE when ‘cleaning’ mold.
Tell the kids not to leave wet towels on the carpet!
De-clutter. Mycotoxins like cluttered areas like dark stuffed wardrobes.
Invest in a HEPA filter vacuum or air filter such as the Air Doctor.
Helpful tips for the body if you are or have been exposed to mold:
Drainage and detoxification is key. Support the liver & gallbladder with bitter foods, cruciferous vegetables, dandelion and milk thistle.
Ensure your diet is nutrient dense and particularly full of fibre. Fibre binds to toxins and sweeps them out of the body. Daily bowel movements are essential.
Sauna and move your body regularly to help sweat out toxins.
Try dry skin brushing to support the lymphatic system
Make sure you get enough sleep. This is the time when the body detoxifies (however if exposed to mold, you may be suffering with insomnia).
These are supportive practices. To full clear the body you will need to follow a stepped protocol which includes specific supplements, diet and lifestyle interventions. If you feel that you and your family have ongoing symptoms that you suspect could be coming from mold, please contact me for more information as it can be challenging.
