Let’s Move!

As part of our self care routines, its important that we move and its important that we connect with nature.

One way of doing this is joining me Nordic Walking.

But what is it?

Nordic Walking in Cornwall uses special carbon fibre poles (not to be mistaken for trekking poles) as an aid to enhance ordinary walking.

The use of poles enable us to also use the rest of the body as well as the legs creating a specific fitness technique suitable for all ages and abilities.

The technique works our shoulders, arms, abs and legs creating an all over workout. The great thing is that the support of the poles makes it easier on the joints.

During a Nordic Walk we burn 46% more calories than normal walking.

And this isn’t the only benefit - you’ll be getting fresh air, connecting with nature, socialising, learning a new skill and getting a great low impact exercise.

I can also take you through resistance work that can be done using the poles to make exercises harder and to aid balance.

These add an extra element of strength training to what could have otherwise been an ordinary walk!

Did you know that the best time of the day to get outside and walk is in the morning?

This helps to expose our eyes (and subsequently our hypothalamus) to sunlight early on, helping to control normal circadian rhythms and in turn, helping us to sleep better at night.

Our bodies are amazing, aren’t they?

If you would like to join me on a walk, first you will need to learn the drills towards understanding this simple but sometimes tricky technique.

Once you have mastered this you can join me on my longer adventures.

I look forward to exploring with you.
